Microsoft has very warped sense of humour
Here at GoMo Towers we nearly fell off our bar stools when we saw the blog posting here announcing that, "Today Microsoft launch MS-DOS Mobile, a new OS designed especially for Lumia smartphones." We guess that this being April 1st 2015 [April Fools Day], this is just one big spoof. Unfortunately, the Redmond based company hasn't made it clear at all. It's even gone as far as creating a download for the product here which gives the news even more credibility. Sadly, over here in Blighty [UK] we can't actually try to download this app to our Lumia handset because the Windows Phone store reports it isn't available in our region. To make matters worse, the Lumia team are currently still insisting the product is real.
The problem is that offering an MS-DOS alike product makes a great deal of sense. For tech newbies, MS-DOS was Microsoft's original OS which had no graphics capabilities. It is famed for the 'C:/" prompt.
Having hacked around Windows for years using MS-DOS to fix glitches, the thought of such a tool for the Windows Phone OS is quite appealing.
The quote which goes with the MS-DOS Mobile posting is from Daniel Glass who apparently led design the project, was, "The inspiration for the graphical design is Courier New meets Film Noir."
We suppose that is supposed to be the clue with Film Noir being a kind of dark humourous movie.
Unfortunately for these guys, genuine Lumia users would get quite excited about the promise that "the sleuths amongst you will delight in uncovering a few extra special features – all through the medium of the much-loved C:/ prompt."
We can View the Youtube video below to confirm our suspicions – but our US based readers might have better luck if they can actually install the app.
We'll let you know if Microsoft fesses up after Noon.
