Surface Pro 4, Lumia 950, 950 XL Windows 10 for Mobile, Band 2.0: Expectations from Microsoft October Event

On the heels of Apple's big event on last Wednesday, Microsoft is ramping up preparations for its own event, which is expected to take place next month. The October event is supposed to include the unveiling of several new pieces of hardware from Microsoft. Here's what you should know.

Microsoft Surface Pro 4

At the top of the list of items that may be unveiled in October is the Surface Pro 4. The Surface Pro 4 isn't expected to have any major upgrades from the Surface Pro 3, which was released last year, but there will be a few noticeable changes. The Pro 4 is expected to have a thinner frame, larger display, and better resolution than its predecessor. It will also feature fingerprint scanner support.

Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL

A pair of new phones may also be part of Microsoft's plans for October, the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. Most of Microsoft's mobile products have been affordable, low-end products, but rumors surrounding the company suggest that the Lumia 950 and the 950 XL will be high-end smartphones, and the event in October will be an opportunity for Microsoft to show users what they've come up with that can compete with the likes of Apple and Samsung.

The unveiling of the Lumia 950 and 950 XL will also mean the unveiling of Windows 10 Mobile. Microsoft made Windows 10 available as a free upgrade for PC users on July 28, but it remains to be seen how the company's new software will translate to mobile devices.

Microsoft Band 2.0

One final piece of hardware that may be unveiled by Microsoft next month is an updated version of the Microsoft Band. The band is designed to improve one's health and wellness by tracking the user's heart rate, calories burned and sleep quality, among other features. Details about the updates the new Microsoft Band will feature have been hard to come by, but reports indicate that at least a few of the changes will be based on input from users.

Does Microsoft have something else up its sleeve? Perhaps, and if they do, it's likely we'll find out at their October event. If nothing else, we'll be expecting the unveiling of several new Microsoft products, including the Surface Pro 4, the latest Lumia smartphone, and an updated Microsoft Band.
