Microsoft recruits select Windows 10 Mobile Insiders for new “more active” team

Have you participated in Microsoft's Insider program? For users willing to put up with some rough-around-the-edges software, it's a great way to get an advance look at the company's upcoming releases, and for the past nine months now (has it been that long already?) it's allowed Windows Phone users to have early access to Windows 10 Mobile. Now with the public Windows 10 Mobile updates just about to start dropping, what does the future hold for Insiders? We can't quite peek behind the curtain at Microsoft, but a new solicitation going out to certain Insider testers sure hints at something very interesting.

Microsoft's reaching out to testers who have already provided "exceptional feedback" to "join a group that will soon play an even more active role in the development of Windows 10 Mobile." It congratulates these users on their knowledge and passion, and invites them to fill out a survey to see if they've got what it takes to participate.

What could this new, "more active" program entail? One theory suggests that Microsoft could be hooking these testers up with not just advanced copies of smartphone software, but also some actual hardware. That might not mean anything so bold as pre-launch access, but could instead give them an early shot at taking home phones like the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL – ones that are already official, but still haven't quite made it to the point of retail availability.

That might be overreaching just a little, though, and this program could also just as easily be all about software – but maybe with some slightly more bleeding-edge access.

Hopefully Microsoft starts getting back to these survey participants soon, and some of them step forward with details on what's cooking.
