Microsoft Launched Windows 10 Mobile

After months of anticipation and delays, Microsoft's long-awaited Windows 10 Mobile upgrade is set to become available March 17. Originally, Windows 10 Mobile planned to begin upgrading various phones back in December, but the process ended up being delayed until February and then March. Now, it's finally here.

As of this date, Microsoft started rolling out the update to Windows Phone 8.1 devices. To be more specific, there will be 18 phones to upgrade first: Lumia 1520, 930, 640, 640XL, 730, 735, 830, 532, 535, 540, 635 (1GB), 636 (1GB), 430, 435, BLU Win HD w510u, BLU Win HD LTE x150q, and MCJ Madosma Q501.

There are also a few devices that have already shipped with Windows 10 Mobile available on them as well such as the Lumia 950, 950 XL, 650, 550, Xiaomi Mi4, and Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL.

However, older Windows Phone devices will not get the upgrade as the company doesn't want the phones to run with the new system in case the result is worse than the operating system version they currently run on.

If your phone is eligible, Windows 10 Mobile will include tons of awesome new features including a new Start screen, an improved Cortana, enhanced Live tiles, wider app support, Windows Hello, and Continuum. Outlook and Office have also been improved, but most of the bigger changes are in relation to Windows 10's universal apps.

To get the upgrade, you can download the Windows 10 Upgrade Advisor app from the Windows Store, which will let you know if the upgrade is available for your device yet and everything you may need to do.

There are a few things Microsoft does recommend in order to get your device ready for the update:

Charge your battery beforehand.

Connect your phone to WiFi, which is required for the download and installation to take place.

Back up your settings, app, photos, text messages, and anything else you may want to save to the cloud before installing the upgrade. You can set up backups by heading to your Settings icon, clicking Backup, and following the guided instructions.

Make sure you have enough storage space for the download. The Upgrade Advisor app can help, as it will recommend files (videos or photos) you can move to OneDrive or an SD card if you have one. You could also plug your phone into your PC and move any files your desire there. Then, you can move them back to your phone after the upgrade has taken place.
