As Microsoft continues to drag its feet in getting full, public Windows 10 Mobile updates rolling for Windows Phone 8.1 handsets, its Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview program remains your best, if only option for getting a head start in using the company's latest software on some older hardware. Much like Windows Phone itself, though, access to the Insider program has been largely been a Lumia-only affair. Last spring, we finally started to see that change as the HTC One M8 for Windows became Insider-eligible, followed later in the year by the LG Lancet. That was a good start, but now really Microsoft's really outdoing itself when it comes to welcoming non-Lumia models into the program, as it expands access to four new third-party models.
Microsoft is opening the Windows 10 Mobile Insider program to the MCJ Madosma Q501, BLU Win HD W510U, BLU Win HD LTE X150Q, and Alcatel Fierce XL.
Admittedly, some of those additions are a little more exciting than others: while phones like those BLU models will be getting access to Windows 10 Mobile for the first time, the Alcatel Fierce XL is already a Windows 10 handset – its addition to the Insider program is more about getting advance access to the latest builds than it is introducing the phone to Windows 10 in general.
Even with those considerations in mind, this is still big news for Windows 10 Mobile Insider Previews, as it marks the first time in months that any new phones have been added – Lumia or not.
