Windows 10 Mobile Will Not Reach 50% of Windows Phones

Owners of Windows Phone 8.1 devices can now rejoice as Microsoft has announced that it will be rolling out Windows 10 updates.

This was a surprise because both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 are still in their "extended support" phase, and generally that means the operating system is left as is, but security updates are done until the end of extended support.

If you're a Chrome user, one of the main reasons you use the browser is probably because of the huge number of extensions available to you. Users can expect more features and improvements to come on Twitter for Windows in the future. On the other hand, if you have a Lumia with 512MB of RAM, it's time to give up – the official update to Windows 10 Mobile will never reach your device.

These aren't the only changes that have been introduced in the Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14291.

Older Windows smart phones will now have a chance to upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile.

A report in Beta News said, "Windows Store has failed to attract developers in droves, Microsoft will nearly certainly be concerned that Edge's browser repository will be similarly ignored".

However, Microsoft denied the complaints about the Windows 10 forced upgrade.

Windows phone was once thought of as being different than Android because of guaranteed updates but the reality of the situation is that Windows phone users have had update promises broken, which makes it no different than buying an Android phone.

Officially supported Lumia devices include Lumia 1520, Lumia 930, Lumia 830, Lumia 730, Lumia 735, Lumia 640, Lumia 640XL, Lumia 635 1GB, Lumia 636 1GB, Lumia 638 1GB, Lumia 540, Lumia 535, Lumia 532, Lumia 435 and Lumia 430.

Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 Mobile, but the company's decision to leave behind several handsets running Windows Phone and not upgrading them to the new OS quickly backfired and nearly everyone seems to be criticizing the software giant these days. Consumers' options are the Lumia 550, Lumia 650, Lumia 950, or Lumia 950 XL. Unlike Internet Explorer's native add-ons, Edge has designed its extensions platform to be easier for developers to work with and port from other browsers. The Windows maker kicked off extension support with Mouse Gestures, Microsoft Translator and Reddit Enhancement Suite extensions, and the saga took off over the weekend with a few third party extensions including Tweeten, Turn Off the Lights.

To prevent such issues, Microsoft will first release new Edge extensions to its Windows Insiders for testing, DeBruyne said.
