Microsoft Surface Phone release tipped for 2017 in 3 versions

Microsoft is only offering the new OS to approximately 50 percent of its Windows Phone devices, so after the long wait, many users most likely chose to jump ship and move to Android or iOS.

There are several other advantages that Microsoft could cash into by postponing the launch of the smartphone until early next year.

As a result, it looks like Microsoft will be leaving the lower-end segment where Windows Phone had success a few years ago.

Microsoft today announced that it's releasing a 64-bit (x64) version of Windows 10 IoT Core Pro, a special flavor of the edition of Windows 10 designed for small Internet-connected devices that's exclusively available to original equipment manufacturers (OEM). Will it launch in 2017 or Microsoft launch it in Q4 of 2016 or this rumour is true.

According to Windows Central, who are a reputable publication that deal in Microsoft-related news and rumors, three new Surface Phones are to be introduced in 2017 as the new flagship devices that should demonstrate Windows 10 Mobile in its best form.

The Surface Phone, however, may be made more affordable if the company wants to compete in the market, especially with the upcoming iPhone 7 by Apple, and the recently released Samsung Galaxy S7.

Other ways in which these models could vary are with their processors, RAM, internal storage, and other features, so maybe sizes. "'Our source declined to provide any details beyond the fact that the handset is in the late stages of development and will launch in the coming months".

At least, that's what a report from Windows Central's Daniel Rubino suggests.

Once the Windows 10 on desktop and the public cloud mature, Microsoft will have the opportunity to direct its efforts towards promoting Windows 10 on a smartphone. The market segmentation is different from the competition, instead of offering curved screens or a different size they will sell consumer, business and enthusiast models.
