Microsoft to cut up to 1850 jobs in smart phone business

Despite the uninspiring trend of job cuts and sold businesses, Microsoft's stock has reportedly shot up by 1.5% following the recent announcement.

"This list includes a limited set of Windows Phone 8.1 devices and does not include some devices that are now running Windows 10 Mobile in the Windows 10 Mobile Insider program".

Microsoft is also still producing "higher end phones" which includes their own branded phones and the Lumia line.

"We will continue to innovate across devices and on our cloud services across all mobile platforms", Nadella added.

Three years after Microsoft's acquisition of Nokia, the tech giant company is exterminating last remnants of the Finnish tech company.

The company acquired Nokia's phone business in 2014, seeking to capitalise on and the fast-growing industry, but by last summer it was slashing the value of that business and it eliminated 26,000 jobs.

Global market share of Windows smartphones fell below 1 percent in the first quarter of 2016, according to research firm Gartner.
