Over the weekend, it was reported that TCL was planning on entering the Indian market. The Chinese company is not exactly a new player and has been developing smartphones under the Alcatel brand. The company has now sent out media invites for an event in New Delhi on July 4, where it will be launching its first smartphone for the Indian market — TCL 560.

tcl-560-india-launch-inviteThe July 4 event is a global unveiling, and based on what we have come across so far, the TCL 560 boasts an iris scanner. Iris or retina scanners are turning out to be the next big thing in the mobile industry. Just like a fingerprint, a person's retina is also unique, and an iris scanner is also said to be more secure. It can detect up to 266 traits, as opposed to 40 traits by a fingerprint scanner.

In India, Microsoft introduced retina scanners on its Lumia 650 and Lumia 650XL last year with support for Windows Hello feature. Just yesterday, Reliance Digital launched the LYF Earth 2, which is the first Android smartphone in India to feature a retina scanner. Going forward, Samsung is widely expected to introduce an iris scanner on its Galaxy Note 7 phablet later this year.

Not a lot is known about the TCL 560 smartphone, except that it will feature a 5.5-inch display, quad-core processor, 4G LTE support and will run on Android Marshmallow out-of-the-box. It will be interesting to see how TCL prices the 560 smartphone, but if we were to hazard a guess it could be somewhere between the Rs 15,000 and Rs 20,000 mark.
