The Nokia 3310 Is Back

"That's the unique opportunity we have here at HMD with the Nokia brand".

Now, the Nokia 3310 is back with a better battery and a sleeker design.

The launch wasn't unexpected. It can power through up to 51 hours of MP3 playback too, as well as up to 39 hours of FM radio playback. Not bad for a supposedly dead brand. This time the snake is smarter, faster, and more poisonous.

It's a clever strategy.

The predecessor of the famous 3310, the 3210 is one of the best-selling phones to date and was the first mass market phone to include the antenna inside the phone's body, rather than have it sticking out.

There's been an intense debate in my head ever since Nokia introduced the new iteration of its classic 3310.

There are also less logical reasons.

One seller sold their original 3310 which was in good condition, but had "minor marks from use - mostly on the back cover".

According to an in-depth report on PC Mag, "Nokia 3310, which is really a faithful retread of an old favorite with some new and improved features". The relaunched 3310 gets a bit of a makeover, but the $50 feature phone is still dead simple.

In countries like India, there is a huge population and target group that will see Nokia 3310 as their first phone or primary phone, he added. So long, the Nokia 6 was a Chinese affair, but with the Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 smartphones, the global variant of Nokia 6 was also unveiled.

"The launch of the new re-imagined Nokia 3310 feature phone threatens to overshadow HMD's modern smartphones", warned Ian Fogg, an analyst at HIS. However, these details are yet to be officially confirmed by Nokia and HMD.

Nokia's prominence stood in stark contrast to the nearly complete absence of any official BlackBerry presence at a similar event on Saturday. Both were dominant players in their field undone by aggressive competitors and strategic missteps. The company hopes the new phones will boost its fortunes.

While this is a comeback of sorts for Nokia, earlier, the company had tried its hand with global tech giant Microsoft, to jump on the smartphone bandwagon with Lumia devices, but in vain. These models are priced between 139 to 299 euros.

"HMD is not old Nokia". So is the Nokia 3310 a threat to the advanced smartphones in the market?

Do you know all about Nokia?
