As Windows 10 is reportedly marked for a late July 2015 release date, Build 10052 of the operating system's Technical Preview has started rolling out with Windows-powered phones as initial recipients. The upcoming Microsoft software remains a free upgrade option to many Windows OS users, reports said.
Microsoft has previously announced that its newest Windows version will be accessible as free upgrade for users Windows 7 and later editions on their machines. That is still true, according to Forbes, noting too the offer is valid only for a one-year period. Afterwards, speculations are rife that succeeding updates will come with subscription fees.
Late July arrival
But first, PC World is saying in a report that the late July Windows 10 touchdown is good as confirmed since the source of the revelation is AMD CEO Lisa Su. As the big boss of the giant chipmaker, Su hinted that the Windows 8.1 replacement is all set to launch in the last few days of July – apparently factoring in the effect of the back-to-school season.
While the announcement was unintended, Su's words give weight on earlier indications that Windows 10 indeed is coming out in time for the 2015 summer season. AMD, after all, is a major Microsoft business partner – meaning the company has inside information regarding the latest operating system from the software giant, PC World said on its report.
If indeed the late July rollout is already written in stone, a formal notice on the matter is likely to be issued by Microsoft very soon. The 2015 BUILD developers conference that begins on April 29 is the best place to watch for on such announcement.
Free update
Meanwhile, Forbes is reminding that new as it is the Windows as promised is packaged as a free update to PC users running Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. That would mean that all the power and improvements cooked up by Microsoft with the OS will be made available via the Windows Update channel.
So it's on Microsoft for the first 12 months after the Windows 10 debut. In order to enjoy this treat, users need only to install the latest updates of their Windows versions then gear up for the next level – again through the hassle-free Windows Update route.
Technical Preview Build 10052
As for mobile device users in the platform, Microsoft is giving them a taste of the Technical Preview, which is now on Build 10052. Seeded this week, the latest build, per Microsoft's official Windows blog site, mainly involves bug fixes.
"There are no new features in this build, but it should be much more usable day to day with these improvements," the Windows blog said. Among the fixes delivered are:
It is expected that more Build versions are forthcoming prior to the actual Windows 10 release date. Prior to the AMD revelation, rumours suggest of two touchdown instalments this 2015 – one in July and another in October – then the software will be updated anew in 2016, which will hit using the codename Redstone.
