NEW YORK: Microsoft is launching a separate Cortana application for Android phones and for iPhones which works as a companion to Cortana on Windows 10 PC. To get this Cortana app, users will need to rely on the 'Phone Companion' app on the Windows 10 PC. The app will prompt users to install Cortana from their device's respective app store.
Cortana will offer all the features that it does on Windows Phone devices. From helping users set reminders, alarms, to tracking flights on both phone and PC, Cortana will function like it does on Windows. Of course, many users on Android might already be relying on Google Now for their alerts, etc, so it remains to be seen how the app does on the platform.
Also whatever changes a user makes to Cortana's Notebook will show across all devices. Cortana is not the only Windows app that will be bundled in Phone Companion app.
The Phone Companion app also supports OneDrive, Office 365, Skype, OneNote, Outlook.com, and the Music app.
OneDrive will store all the photos you take on your phone automatically, although Microsoft not specified if there will be a disable option for this. Thanks to this OneDrive syncing, the photos will also show in the Photos app in Windows 10 PC. This means that a user will not have to sit and individually transfer pictures from a smartphone to PC.
Microsoft is also bringing the Music app to the Phone Companion app and users will be able to store and access their music from OneDrive on their PC, but also on iOS or Android phones.
With OneNote, whatever notes a user takes on PC will show on the smartphone as well. Also if changes are made to a note on the phone, the same will reflect in the PC version as well.
