Microsoft Corporation Tipped To Launch Lumia 940, 940 XL Alongside Windows 10 Mobile At October 19 Event

While Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) "Hey Siri" event is very much the focus of attention, we look towards Microsoft Corporation's (NASDAQ:MSFT) own event, which is due to be conducted in New York next month. The company has been working behind the scenes on its upcoming Windows 10 Mobile platform. However, that's not it with reports indicating that they will be releasing new iterations across its different product portfolios. The company is expected to launch its long awaited Lumia smartphones together with the updated mobile OS.

Microsoft is expected to launch its Surface Pro 4, which will be going directly against Apple's new iPad Pro, new Microsoft Bands for fitness lovers and of course the flagship Lumia smartphones, we have long been waiting for.

It's been only a few months that Microsoft's CEO, Satya Nadella, talked about the company not having flagship devices, which could possibly compete with the likes of other flagships in the market. With this being said, reports surfaced that the company already has handsets in production and these were only confirmed after press renders surfaced over the Internet showcasing the alleged smartphones.

Microsoft's upcoming Lumia smartphones are the Lumia 940 and Lumia 940XL, these are claimed to be the first to be launched running Windows 10 out of the box. The Lumia 940 will be featuring a 5.2-inch WQHD display having a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels whereas the larger sibling will be supporting a 5.7-inch display.

The Lumia 940 will be powered by the Snapdragon 808 chip whereas the Lumia 940XL will be featuring the more powerful Snapdragon, both the smartphones will be packing 3GB of RAM. Both the Lumia 940 and Lumia 940XL will be featuring a Pure View 20MP camera on the rear whereas the front camera is a 5MP shooter. Both the smartphones will come with 32GB of internal storage and will be providing users the option to further expand memory via the MicroSD card slot.

The Lumia smartphones are looking like the flagships the company should have introduced months or maybe years ago, however better late than never. Together with the launch of Windows 10 Mobile, Microsoft is aiming to attract smartphone users away from Apple and Google Inc.'s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android. However, it remains to be seen whether it will succeed in doing so, thereby managing to gain some much needed market share within the industry.

The new Lumia smartphones are tipped to be unveiled at the New York event scheduled for October 19.
