Microsoft’s Lumia 550 leaks again, now with some slightly different specs

We've got confirmation: Microsoft's next Windows 10 event is scheduled for three weeks from today, on October 6. And while we don't have the full menu of what the company intends to talk about, Windows 10 devices are on the agenda, and there's a better-than-good chance that means new Lumia smartphones. With such a vacuum at the high end of its smartphone market, Microsoft's needed some fresh flagship blood for a while now, so we're understandably excited for the debut of the Lumia 950 and 950 XL, but those may not be the full extent of the new smartphone announcements. There's a chance Microsoft may also bring along some more more conservative new Lumia handsets, and today we check out a leak attempting to call out one of them, the Lumia 550.

That's a model number we've heard before, as specs on some prototype hardware leaked back in July. At the time the 550 was identified as a five-inch quarter-HD model with a Snapdragon 210 and 8GB storage – quite the antithesis to what we're expecting from the Lumia 950.

While the 550 hadn't popped back up on our radar until today, now it's appearing in a German phone-distributor database. While it still turns up as an 8GB model, screen size is now reported as 4.7 inches; there's no further mention of resolution, but presumably we're still talking about qHD – and to be fair, that's a little (little) more forgivable with the smaller screen size.

But for now, there's still no direct evidence suggesting this guy will make an appearance at Microsoft's October 6 event. There's a chance, sure, but with it still unclear which market the manufacturer has in mind for this handset, we're not necessarily holding our breath.
