Windows 10 Mobile update schedule for Lumia 640, 535, 830, 930: App to check eligible devices

There were reports that Microsoft had started rolling out the Windows 10 Mobile OTA (over-the-air) update to a couple of devices over the last few days, creating confusion over whether the software had been really released. It now appears Lumia devices may soon receive the software update but the actual rollout hasn't been initiated yet.

It was earlier reported that T-Mobile had released it to the 4G-capable Lumia 640 in Poland before another report claimed the software has been rolled out to Lumia 535 devices in Latin America.

However, Microsoft hasn't announced the Windows 10 Mobile update schedule for its Lumia devices, though it has revealed the names of some handsets that would get it. There is no further update on the rumoured software rollout to Lumia 640 and Lumia 535. So, in all likelihood, these devices might not have got the new software yet.

However, Lumia Help has hinted on its Twitter page that the software would be made available to its devices any time now.

According to a report by WMpoweruser, Microsoft has started working on an app called Uprgade Advisor to let users check if their devices are eligible to get the Windows 10 Mobile update when it is rolled out to the public. This is what the description of the yet-to-be-released app reads:

"The Windows 10 Mobile Upgrade Advisor app will tell you if your Windows 8.1 phone is eligible for upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile. It can also help free up space on your phone so you're ready for the upgrade. When you open the app, it checks your phone and lets you know if it's eligible to upgrade, if an update is required before you can upgrade, or if your phone can't be upgraded. See windows.com/mobilespecs for more information. If your phone is eligible for the upgrade, you may need to free up some space to get it. The app will recommend files, such as videos or photos, that you can temporarily move to OneDrive or an SD card, if you have one installed. Accept the recommendations, or change which files you want to move. You can also delete some files, if you want. If you move files to OneDrive, you need to use the app to restore files back to your phone after Windows 10 Mobile is installed."

However, users of Windows phones can check if Windows 10 Mobile will come to their devices only when the Upgrade Advisor app is made public. We will let you know when the app is available for checking eligibility of devices for the software.

Microsoft may not have announced the Windows 10 Mobile update schedule for its Windows phones, but it may arrive soon. The software was supposed to be released by the end of 2015, but it was postponed. It is now expected to be rolled out this month.

The software giant had earlier announced that it would initially release the software to its devices like Lumia 430, Lumia 532, Lumia 535, Lumia 540, Lumia 640, Lumia 640 XL, Lumia 735, Lumia 830 and Lumia 930 before rolling it out to Windows 8.0-based phones.
