Microsoft Lumia 650 Windows 10 Mobile Handset Announced

There were rumours of a new Windows 10 Mobile handset from Microsoft in mid-January, and those rumours have now been confirmed.

In a new job post published on the Microsoft Careers webpage (and spotted by WMPU), Redmond reveals that it's aiming to sell "millions of Windows 10 Mobile devices" to enterprises as part of its plan to conquer the business environment and bring Windows 10 on as many PCs, tablets, and smartphones as possible in this market. It is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 processor paired with 1GB RAM.

Microsoft has already released its Lumia 950, 950 XL and 550, but the 650 is the first handset for 2016.

The Lumia branding is in some doubt, with Microsoft tipped to regroup its mobile efforts around the Surface brand. It packs 16GB of built-in storage and supports expandable storage via microSD card (up to 200GB). There were reports that claimed that this latest operating system may start rolling out in February, and this may just be true.

Getting back to the Lumia 650, whether or not it's the last Lumia, it features a thin and light design - 6.9mm and 122g - plus there's a polished, diamond cut and anodized aluminum frame which you don't even get on the flagship Lumia 950 range. That means that numerous features included in modern Windows phones-like Continuum-aren't supported. There's an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing snapper, while connectivity options include 4G LTE, 3G, 2G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS/A-GPS, and more. The 650 will go on sale this week in Europe for $199 (€180) and will be available in matte black and matte white. The biggest difference however is that the Lumia 650 Dual SIM comes with dual-SIM slots.

Hopes for Syria ceasefire dim as Turkey shells KurdsHe added that if Turkey intervened in Syria they would find "the entire Syrian people confronting them". The YPG rejects Turkey's demand to leave areas it has seized, saying Islamists would return if it left.
