Attention, Windows 10 mobile users! Microsoft has updated its maps app

The volume of churn is too high and users are leaving the Windows Phone OS and are moving to Android and iOS devices.

It should come as no surprise that Microsoft ends the blog post by giving a bit shout out Windows 10 and its undeniable superiority over legacy operating systems, including enhancement to battery life, graphics performance, and security.

Microsoft has recently introduced a set of new features in its Windows 10 Maps app. Kushal Kapoor, Product Marketing Manager at Windows Maps team, confirmed it via an official Windows blog. After that date, only security fixes would be made available, and those security fixes would only be created if they had no implications for the compatibility or reliability of others platforms. The lucky ones are the owners of the Lumia 1520, 930, 640, 640XL, 730, 735, 830, 532, 535, 540, 635 1GB, 636 1GB, 638 1GB, 430, 435, BLU Win HD w510u, and the BLU Win HD LTE x150q.

Users can also view multiple searches and directions at the same time layered on top of each other or use tabs to switch between views.

Here maps are the latest to join the bandwagon of disappearing apps from Microsoft's Windows Phone store that includes American Airlines, Chase Bank, Bank of America, NBC, Pinterest, and Kabam.

A part of Microsoft's plans to deploy its latest OS to Skylake PCs remains unchanged, however: shortly put, post-Skylake chipsets will sport exclusive Windows 10 support.

For the desktop users there is a new dark theme which can be selected. Similarly, nonsecurity updates likely will not be arriving past the July 17, 2018 deadline.

Reports state that the HTC One M8 and the Lumia 920 are two such phones which did receive a beta version of the update in the past.

Back in November of 2014, the Lumia account on Twitter stated that all Windows Phone 8 devices will be upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile. However, there might be a chance that Microsoft rolls out the update at a later point of time for these devices. Meanwhile, Microsoft released a new Windows Insider build (14291) with updated Maps and Alarm & Clock apps.

Apparently, the OS update for the existing devices in the market was initially planned to be released back in December.

Firstly, it is a lengthy process and thus users should plug in their devices to a charger which will make sure that it does not runs out of juice while upgrading.
