Facebook, Messenger, Instagram available in Windows 10 Store

Nevertheless, it was accepted that Facebook would not release a Windows Phone 8.1 app with the calling feature, they would update the app to v.next of Windows with most features intact.

While in the past, Windows apps have seemed to have been something of an afterthought, the new Facebook application for Windows 10 is not at all lagging behind.

According to a Facebook blog post, you'll be able to share photos directly from File Explorer to Facebook. The app offers desktop notifications so you won't miss any big news, and you can pin a new Live Tile, which shows the latest updates from friends, family, and Pages you follow. It has an account-switching feature that enables moving in between multiple Instagram accounts. "You also can see when you have messages waiting for you with a Live Tile". Also, apart from the core Windows 10 features such as support for live tiles and notifications, users can also look forward to sharing across apps for an even more immersive Facebook experience. It also packs a built-in browser for easier reading and sharing of articles.

Tuula Rytila, Corporate Vice President, Windows Marketing at Microsoft said; "We're thrilled to have this collection of apps available from Facebook for Windows 10 users". For now, these apps are only available for Windows desktops.

Note: Not that it matters per se, but I believe Microsoft created the Facebook and Facebook Messenger apps, not Facebook.

The new application will replace Facebook Windows 8 app though users still can use the older version if they have it installed. After months of testing with small groups of users (and thus, inevitable leaks), Facebook has finally delivered.

The Windows 10 Facebook app, on the other hand, has all the bells and whistles that the mobile app has: Reactions, stickers and event notifications.

Facebook, Messenger and Instagram are available for download now through the Windows Store. With these apps, however, there's the opportunity to remain exclusive, keeping users within the site while at the same time giving them a one-click access at all times.

The last time Facebook updated us on time-spent stats was July 2014, when it said that people in the USA spent over 40 minutes on the main social network every day.
