Windows 10 Mobile news recap: Edge swipe gestures, Lumia Icon gets some love

Welcome back to our weekly "Windows 10 Mobile news recap" series where we go over the top stories of the past week in the world of Microsoft's mobile operating system. Let's get started.

If you're a tablet or phone users who absolutely loved swiping between web pages with Modern IE on Windows 8, we have some good news for you. The latest internal Windows 10 builds have finally reintroduced this feature in Edge, allowing for super easy web page navigation much like before! More on that here.

Gabe Aul confirmed on Twitter this past week that Lumia Icon devices can now download and install the latest Windows 10 Mobile preview builds via the Insider Fast and Insider Slow rings. Insiders have been asking for preview access ever since Windows 10 Mobile began its official rollout, and now that day is finally here. This does not mean Windows 10 Mobile is rolling out officially for the Lumia Icon, just today Icon users can now install Redstone builds for testing. It's highly likely however that at some point, Microsoft will announce official availability of Windows 10 Mobile for the Icon.

AT&T's prepaid subsidiary, Cricket Wireless, is now offering the budget-friendly Lumia 650 in the US, making it the only carrier to offer Microsoft's Windows 10 Mobile handset. The device is available online as well as through the carrier stores for $129.99 off-contract.

The Windows 10 Anniversary update is fast approaching, and while most of the work being done right now seems to be tweaks and fixes, Microsoft is still throwing in a few new features for us to sink our collective teeth into. The Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update is going to be bringing users the option to open up certain links using apps instead of Microsoft Edge. Essentially, this means that opening up links to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram can give you access to the corresponding app in lieu of the often-inferior browser version.

That's all for this week's Windows 10 Mobile news recap. Stay tuned for another exciting week of news!
