Windows 10 developer talks up the advantages of PC, but not mobile, development

Microsoft has a lot of tips for people who want to develop apps for Windows 10, but at the end of the day, the best tips are always going to come from the people who are having success creating apps on their own. In the pursuit of offering that perspective, Microsoft brought on developers "Game Troopers" to write up a few tips to up-and-coming studios.

In the post, the number one tip may feel like a slap in the face to Windows 10 Mobile users.

The launch of Windows 10 has allowed Game Troopers to publish more of its titles on desktop PC and tablets, and it's seeing the benefits. For example, the shooter "Overkill 3" has received 2,000,000 downloads on Windows 10 PC compared to 90,000 downloads for Windows phone.

We all know about the lack of attention that Windows 10 Mobile has been getting recently, and it's pretty depressing for people who decided to back the Lumia horse with their latest smartphone purchase. Instead of trying to develop more apps to get the interest of more people in Windows 10 Mobile, Microsoft's allowing this tip into the blog post makes it seem like the company has thrown in the towel and accepted that, for now, apps are really just not going to be successful through Windows 10 Mobile.

This is, unfortunately, just a realistic and useful tip to give to developers. The fact that Windows 10 PC apps are having so much more success than Windows 10 Mobile apps is something that app developers do have to accept, and as much as we want developers to push harder to give us quality content for Windows 10 Mobile, we have to realize that app developers need to put their own interests first.

Hopefully, as time goes on and Microsoft puts effort into changing their mobile strategy, developing for Windows phones could become a more viable decision for app developers. The blog post contains a number of other suggestions for developers, but the focus on Windows 10 PCs really stands out.
