Microsoft delivers Windows 10 Preview Build 14367 for PC and Mobile

Microsoft has pushed out another preview release build of Windows 10 for the PC and mobile phone platforms, just days after releasing the previous update.

As with other recent releases, this build contains just a few new features but many fixes as Microsoft gears up for the next major update to Windows 10.

Available now for Microsoft's Windows Insider test community on the Fast Ring, Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14367 for PC and Mobile delivers features such as extended handwriting recognition language support and a new tool to perform clean installations of builds.

However, as Microsoft's Dona Sarkar, new head of the Windows Insider programme, explained earlier this week, the Windows developer team is now "laser focused on getting ready to ship the Windows 10 Anniversary Update", which means that fixing bugs is the priority.

Nevertheless, the latest build delivers a new tool that provides a convenient way for testers on the PC platform to start afresh with a clean installation of Windows.

"We've heard from many of you attempting to perform a clean installation of Windows that it can sometimes be hard to get started," said Sarkar, writing on the Windows Experience Blog.

This tool is now available from the Settings app and installs a clean copy of the most recent version of Windows 10, as well as removing apps that were installed on the PC.

Also new is the addition of a further 23 languages for handwriting recognition, including Swahili, Xhosa and Zulu for the first time.

Meanwhile, there is a long list of fixes, as Windows Insiders on the Fast Ring have come to expect.

For the PC, these include speedier and more reliable cross-device notifications from a phone to the PC via Cortana for those with a Windows 10 Mobile device and a PC, and a fix for a problem in which Cortana failed to display the relevant system settings results for certain search terms.

On the phone platform, Microsoft said that developers will now be able to deploy an app via Visual Studio 2015 Update 2 to a device running this latest build.

Among the fixes is one for a fault that caused existing reminders to fail to display in Cortana's reminder section, and another in which the Battery Saver would not turn on after the user tapped the notification prompt asking them to do so because the battery was low.

The Windows 10 Anniversary Update, also known as Redstone, is slated for release on or near 29 July, one year after the official launch of Windows 10.
