Microsoft is to focus on developers again with the upcoming Windows 10 Anniversary Update release, adding a host of new features and APIs to encourage developers to build on the updated application platform introduced with Windows 10.

Since the release of Windows 10 last summer, users of Windows 7 or Windows 8 whose computers have Windows Update set to automatically update the OS have gotten pop-up notices telling them to upgrade to Windows 10, and the large installation files for it (which can be about 6GB) have downloaded in the background onto their system's main drive, usually without the user directly consenting to this.

There has been quite a controversy over this selective release as the users of other popular devices such as the Lumia 520, Lumia 1020 and Lumia 1320 are upset that their devices have not received this update. One handy life hack mentioned by Microsoft executive Yusuf Mehdi in a blog post Wednesday morning: Cortana will remember your frequent flyer number and repeat it on command.

Windows 10 has improved its market share at a very fast pace in Europe, especially in the Scandinavian region, and StatCounter now indicates that Windows 7 is no longer the leader in at least one country. It's worth noting, however, that the auto-upgrade notification feature will reportedly be removed from Windows 10 next month, amusingly, through an update.

It's therefore safe to say that there hasn't been any remorse on Microsoft's side, that it stands by its aggressive policies, and that, if there were to be any class action, it would probably fight more aggressively.

Getting more people to use the new software is a key element of CEO Satya Nadella's strategy for rebuilding Microsoft's business, which suffered in recent years as PC sales slumped. But executives also believe Windows 10 provides a better experience and stronger security. However some alternative third-party app is available for the Windows 10 mobile.

Myerson said the new upgrade prompt would show "clear options to upgrade now, schedule a time, or decline the free offer", as can be seen above, as well as dismissing the upgrade when the X was clicked to close the prompt.

Teri Goldstein reportedly said: "I had never heard of Windows 10".

As it happens, Goldstein claims that after the upgrade, her computer began to act weird and crash on a regular basis, according to a report from the Seattle Times.
