Microsoft's Lumia smartphone line up will cease to exist. Microsoft will stop manufacturing new Lumia 550, 650, 950 and 950 XL phones in December and after that, the phones will gradually disappear from stores.
The news comes from an anonymous Microsoft employee. The move is likely motivated by the low sales numbers of Windows smartphones which currently holds a market share of less than 1%.
Current owners of a Lumia smartphone will continue to receive updates, especially for Windows 10 Mobile. However, a large number of Lumia owner hasn't upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile yet and continues to use Windows Phone 8.1
The Lumia lineup is reportedly succeeded by the Surface Phon which is expected for next year.
