Microsoft Surface Phone now Rumored to Feature Snapdragon 835 SoC & 4GB/6GB RAM

The Windows 10 powered Lumia 950 and 950 XL smartphones launched last year went unnoticed in the world dominated by Android and iOS powered smartphones. Though Microsoft came with some useful features and decent hardware, none of them attracted many customers. Even the company accepted that their smartphone business is not going well and is now more focusing on the Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) which are expected to go mainstream in the next few years. However, the Surface Phone from Microsoft is one device that has been in the rumors for several months.

Initially, the company had officially said to be working on Surface Phone, but there aren't any timely updates over this project. A few months back, it is said to be using Snapdragon 820 SoC along with whopping 8GB RAM. Now with Qualcomm introducing the Snapdragon 835 SoC, the rumors mills now came out with new specifications. Under the hood, the Surface Phone will be using the Snapdragon 835 SoC and will be available in 4GB and 6GB RAM variants. The company is said to be working on different configurations to give the best output performance.

With the Surface Phone featuring higher configuration, it is said to be supporting X86 apps in the Continuum mode. The Snapdragon 810 powered Lumia 950 and 950 XL smartphones also decently performed while using in the Continuum mode. With the Continuum mode, the monitor, keyboard, and mouse can be connected to the smartphone via Continuum dock and used it as a regular Windows 10 powered monitor. Since there won't any new Lumia devices, the Surface Phone will only next smartphone launch from Redmond giant. However, the Surface Phone will be made officially only by the end of 2017, so one more year of Surface Phone rumors will continue.

If it is launched at the end of 2017, we might also see all new hardware. As of now, the Snapdragon 835 powered Surface Phone will be running on 64-bit Windows 10 Mobile OS. It will also support Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging technology that is said to give 5 hours of usage with just 5 minutes of charging. Along with the Surface Phone, we might also see several Surface branded accessories at the time of official launch. Microsoft is said to be working on bringing 3-in-1 form factor with the device can also be used as a laptop with the additional accessory instead of mobile or a complete PC.

Talking about the display, the device is said to be sporting a 5.5-inch display with Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution. Since all these specifications are based on the early prototype versions, the final product might come with different internal.
