This Guy Got Android Running on a Nokia Lumia Windows Phone Ah, the Nokia Lumia series... what can be said about Microsoft's recently-deceased line of smartphones? They might not have been the best, but they certainly weren't the worst, and they did get the job done in terms of what you would expect from a smartphone.
The Windows-powered phones are being killed off this year, so what happens to all of the consumers that have purchased Lumia phones recently? They certainly won't be receiving any more support or updates from Microsoft. Not to worry—that Lumia you have sitting around in a drawer, gathering dust, might still have some life left in it after all.
Move Over Windows, Android Is HereSenior member thinkx2 over on XDA Developers has managed to boot up Android Nougat 7.1 on his Nokia Lumia 520. Thinkx2 hasn't released the ROM yet, and probably for good reason: While he states that everything is working, it's apparently quite buggy.
However, he has released a proof-of-concept video to prove that Android 7.1 does indeed boot on the three-year-old smartphone. This is fantastic news, since the Nokia Lumia 520 is one of the more widely-used and active Windows phones, falling second only to the Nokia Lumia 535. Check out the video to see for yourself.
Thoughts?Reviving abandoned phones is a common practice in the Android universe. If a phone is liked enough, it'll be kept alive way past the expiration date that manufactures place onto their releases (which is usually two years after the release date). If it can be done with Android phones, then why not replace the deprecated Windows mobile operating system?
