Microsoft Corporation Windows 10 Mobile Build 10549: What’s New

Microsoft Corporation's (NASDAQ:MSFT) recent Windows 10 hardware event presented us with a plethora of products scheduled to hit the market next month. The company has already rolled out Windows 10 for PC, which has truly taken the PC market by storm and has tempted millions of users to switch. Microsoft is now focusing on Windows mobile with the rollout of the new Windows 10 Mobile Build 10549 today.

Here's What To Expect From Windows 10 Mobile Build 10549

The Windows for PC division is more like Microsoft's breadwinner; and then there's the struggling mobile division which is yet to introduce the — albeit — hotly anticipated Windows 10 Mobile. With the introduction of its mobile platform, Microsoft aims to take on the smartphone industry giants Apple Inc.'s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS and Google Inc.'s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android.

The Redmond-based company has adopted a similar strategy of rolling out preview builds for Windows Phones as it had done with Windows 10 for PC. Head of Insider Program Gabe Aul has revealed that the new mobile platform will be available to the Fast Ring of Insiders members.

The Fast Ring of Insiders can download and install the preview build on mobile devices. However, there is a catch: Gabe Aul has revealed that a bug believed to have sprung up last night is causing the phones upgrading from the previous build to get stuck and display a black screen. It would have been better for Microsoft to release the build after the bug fix. Instead, the company has reportedly introduced it as a single update from Windows Phone 8.1, meaning Insiders are to downgrade back to Windows 8.1, and then update to the new build after having installed the Windows Insider App.

Microsoft has realized that not many will bother to go through the whole process — and understandably so —therefore, Gabe Aul has indicated that another build will be released soon, one which takes care of the bug.

We take a look at all that is new in the Windows 10 Mobile Build 10549.

Cortana Improvements

Microsoft has incorporated improvements in its Cortana, the digital assistant, in the form of additional languages. It is now being made available to Insiders in Australia, Canada, and Japan.

Messaging Application Improvements

The build introduces some much-needed improvements to the native messaging application. The application now has a text box that expands as one enters text. Integrated Skype capabilities are also a new feature.

Update forLumia1020

Good news for Lumia 1020 users: the Lumia Camera will no longer be auto-uninstalled if one upgrades to Windows 10 Mobile, since the application is yet to be made available to users via the Windows Store.

DiverseEmoji

The new build brings added support for Unicode's diversity "emoji's" designed to reflect human diversity. Microsoft introduced this feature to its recently released Windows 10 for PC Build 10547, and is now bringing it to the mobile platform.

Microsoft is expected to introduce the final version of the Windows 10 Mobile sometime in November, alongside the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL smartphones, which were also shown off in the Windows event.
