There Are Going To Be New Nokia Android Phones And Tablets

Nokia's Windows Phone devices garnered a lot of praise for their design, and so if Nokia and HMD can continue to design quality hardware and combine it with good Android software, these new Nokia phones and tablets could be big.

Nokia said on Wednesday it has signed an exclusive 10-year licensing deal with Finnish company HMD Global Oy to create Nokia-branded phones and tablets.

Nokia has announced plans that will see the Nokia brand return to the mobile phone and tablet markets on a global basis.

Microsoft made hogwash of Nokia's phone business, and is now selling the feature phone division (as well as 4500 employees) to FIH Mobile, a subsidiary of Foxconn.

Microsoft acquired the Nokia mobile phone business back in 2013 for more than $7 billion, although Nokia retained the business' intellectual property.

The idea is to capitalize on Nokia's brand equity, which it garnered over several years making high-quality feature phones as well as Windows Phone-based smartphones.

"Branding has become a critical differentiator in mobile phones, which is why our business model is centered on the unique asset of the Nokia brand and our extensive experience in sales and marketing".

Microsoft said that as part of the deal, FIH Mobile will also acquire Microsoft Mobile Vietnam, the company's Hanoi, Vietnam, manufacturing facility.
