Microsoft Launches Tap To Pay For Lumia Phones

Microsoft has added tap-and-pay checkout functionality to its Microsoft Wallet mobile application, the company said Tuesday.

So if there are any software that users wish to continue using but are not inherently part of Windows 10, they will have to reinstall them accordingly.

Google's product, Android Pay, finally arrived in the United Kingdom last month, and is open to customers of The Bank of Scotland, First Direct, Halifax, HSBC, Lloyds Bank, M&S Bank, MBNA and Nationwide Building Society.

The tool is created to deal with activation issues which may crop up for Windows users, most commonly when they perform a major hardware upgrade such as swapping out the motherboard (a big change like this could potentially mean the PC is detected as a "new" machine). A top Microsoft executive then said the Windows wallet would store coupons and membership information, to improve both the in-store payment experience and online payments with Windows devices.

In addition, the Troubleshooter is supposed to help users who reinstall Windows 10 on their device get back to the right edition of Microsoft's new operating system. This official app will be available for only those devices which are powered by Windows 10.

Microsoft is making it easier to upgrade your PC without invalidating your copy of Windows 10. The company is also reportedly working on launching a new Surface phone as a capable successor to the Lumia 950 and 950 XL phones and we wonder if the contactless payment feature will be optimised with the upcoming Surface phone.

Wallet is a Windows app that lets you store coupons, loyalty cards, and payment info in one single place, and the updated Wallet 2.0 will expand on that current roster. The move shows Microsoft's confidence in the Windows smartphone - despite seeing a significant drop in its market share. The tap to pay app technically has not come for the first time to Windows Phone.

In order to use Microsoft Wallet's tap to pay feature, you'll need a compatible device.
