The Nokia Lumia 525 is an entry-level phone that Microsoft has released in January 2014 and which currently runs on Windows Phone 8.1. This phone isn't owned by too many people, and only one guy dared to make the impossible possible: to install Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 on it. Triszka Balázs posted the video with the Nokia Lumia 525 loading a CyanogenMod 13 build on it.
The Lumia 525 doesn't have impressive specs, as it was released with a small 4-inch IPS LCD screen supporting a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, it's powered by a Qualcomm MSM8227 dual-core 1.0 GHz processor backed by an Adreno 305 GPU and 1GB of RAM and has an internal memory of 8GB, which can be expanded up to 64GB. It has only one camera on its back with a resolution of 5MP, but which lacks LED flash, and it's kept alive by a removable battery with a capacity of 1430mAh. It's still a wonder that the phone is still used by a few people, especially because it wasn't updated to Windows 10 Mobile.
A crafty modder tested his hacking skills and was able to load a CyanogenMod 13 build on it and his achievement was filmed and uploaded on YouTube. You can watch the proof-of-concept video below:
Triszka Balázs isn't the first coder who tried who bring Android to Lumia phones, but he's the first person who succeeded doing, but he won't publish the source code very soon because "Lumia 525's eMMC died", as he commented on an XDA Developers forum. Balázs still has to work on the CyanogenMod ROM, before the release will go live, and he's planning it make it work on the Lumia 520, as well. Some users are dreaming of running Android 6.0 Marshmallow on the Lumia 950, but Balázs has explained that the exploit works only on devices with Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipsets, and he will need to tweak the ROM, to make it run on various devices.
