Consumer group Which? has conducted a series of battery life tests on the latest smartphones, and the news is not good for the iPhone 7. Pitted against the Samsung Galaxy S7, HTC 10 and LG G5, Apple's latest handset came in last place... and by some distance.

...

But whatever efficiency optimization Apple has baked into iOS 10, it seems they are not enough to make up for the measly 1,960mAh battery it decided to put in the case.

Dang, just a 1900 mAhr battery? Other companies, in the same size phones, can stuff in 50% more battery - and also twice the pixel density on the screen as well...

I like my 6 Plus just fine. No desire to upgrade.

Iphone 5/6 have such terrible low battery lifewe will NOT buy any more iphones until this problem's fixed

otherwise pretty good little devices, but when your batteries run out in just an hour or two or three, they are NOT reliable for out-of-office (or out-of-home) use

no trips with iphone (at least not without backup batteries and cables and chargers, all take up space and are inconvenient to use)

Guess I will. Not be getting a new iPhone anytime soon.

How is it almost even in Internet but way behind in phone usage?

"Documentation spotted from Chinese regulatory body TENAA reveals that the iPhone 7 has a 1,960 mAh battery, which is slightly bigger than the 1,715 mAh battery in the iPhone 6s. The iPhone 7 Plus has a 2,900 mAh battery, which is bigger than the iPhone 6s Plus's 2,750 mAh battery as well."

Inefficient chipsets.

Oh, and one thing to note: the iPhone 7 is just 750 x 1334 pixels (barely XGA - or progressive scan HD). The other three phones are all 1440 x 2560 pixels - nearly 4 times the resolution. Better than full HD (not half-HD), or WQHD for computer screens.

So they're pushing 4X the information to the screen. Four times the GPU and memory moves. And they still win in terms of battery life.

I am one of those stupid Apple I Phone buyers. I just trade up every 2 years. The 6 had such better longer lasting battery than the 5. Now I am thinking that I will trade up to a new 6s and stay away from the 7. And I don't know why I keep buying Apple phones. I am probably dum. I am voting for Trump. Maybe there is hope for me.

You are correct. I wish I hadn't upgraded. Everything is better on the IPHONE 6, in my opinion. I still have it. I am going to go in and see if I can somehow give it back.

Then again, maybe I will wait 18 months and trade up to the Apple 7 plus. Of course that will be after the 8 is already on the market. By that time I will know what the news is about the 7 plus.

What, no Droid Turbo comparisons that smack the HTC to shame??

HTC is 27 hours versus 47 hours for the Droid Turbo.

Standby time of the Turbo is also twice as much.

Wasn't in the test. Would expect it to clean up though, with nearly 4000 mAh battery capacity (twice that of the iPhone 7).

Comparison of battery longevity of iPhone 7 against selected Android phones from some "Consumer Group" called "Which?" which is the UK version of Consumers Reports. Contrary to a generic product testing lab who does not really do this often, other tech labs who do find Apple's battery life estimates are usually a tad conservative. . . after Apple tweaks the software a bit more. — PING!

I won't buy any iPhones either, but it has nothing to do with battery life. I don't like Apple. I have had several versions of Samsung Galaxy's (S6 for now) and I love the features, I love the battery life. Apple sucks. But don't forget to drill a hole in the case for you earphones if you have an i7... :)

To: Swordmaker

FYI - the listed talk time and Internet use listed on the Apple image are within 10% of the actual measured time from Watch? Which should lend credence to their results...

Unfair fight. The HTC lasts much longer because the screen sucks. The Galaxy S7 has the best screen on the market,a battery-challenging OLED, and still bests the iPhone 7. Impressive. S7 remains the best phone on Earth right now

That's because the phone is constantly telling the Feds what you're up to!

I have been holding off from the latest iPhone update 10. Have heard people are not too happy with it.

To: Shanghai Dan

My Microsoft Lumia 950XL has a 3340 mAh battery and the same resolution (1440 x 2560). My previous phone was the Lumia 1520 and it had a 3400 mAh battery with a 1080 x 1920 resolution.

Now as far as batter life goes I think my Lumia 950XL is held back by the OS not being as optimized as it can be, but at the very least my battery is easily removable and replaceable.

Apple's obsession with making their phones thinner has forced them to put smaller batteries in. While they have an advantage of control over hardware and software, their optimizations in the OS could be better. They are also trying to force more features into the OS so it's a tug-of-war as to new features vs. battery life.

Yeah sometimes I wish you could go back to the old one! Extra battery and data use are my complaints. My kid told me there are a couple settings that automatically refresh and update apps that the new OS turns on, you have to manually turn them back off. I just did it today so I'll see..

Oh and they replaced the revolver text message image with a squirt gun..I guess to stop gun violence.??

Here's something to think about regarding battery life.

I carry my iPhone 5c around with me constantly, and use it throughout the day and evening for calls and texts, checking weather, and occasional FReeping.

I have chargers at home, work, and in my car. When I'm not using the phone for more than a few minutes, I put it on a charger. My battery never gets below about 60%.

If I had a phone with, say, twice the "battery life", it wouldn't get below 80%. THAT's NO NET EFFECT, NO BENEFIT TO ME.

Why in heavens name would I ever let the battery run flat dead??? What are these people doing, talking non-stop, in an environment where they have no access to a charger for 10 hours at a time? Have they no work, no school, no car, no life?

Okay then. Except for the few people whose jobs demand they be on the phone constantly -AND- no access to a charger (that's less than 10% of the user base, I'd guess), it should be a no-brainer.

I think this whole battery life "issue" is crap. It's completely avoidable for 90% of the users.

LESSON: If you never have to turn your amp up past '9', it doesn't matter whether the top end is '10' or '11'.
