Windows Phone Much More Secure than Android, Says HP

Android is the operating system of choice for the majority of phone manufacturers these days, and this is how Google's platform managed to achieve a market share that's over 80 percent.

And while Microsoft says that it's committed to working with partners on embracing Windows 10 Mobile, few are actually doing it. HP, for example, decided to install Windows 10 Mobile on its super flagship Elite X3, although Android could have provided more features than Microsoft's OS.

But in a statement for onMSFT, HP explains that choosing Windows 10 Mobile over Android was mostly a decision based on security reasons, as the company wanted the Elite X3 to be a device that excels in this regard.

Slideshows provided by HP for the aforementioned source shows that Windows 10 Mobile is much more secure than Android, with the company also citing Android fragmentation as one of the reasons it decided to pick Microsoft's mobile operating system.

HP says there are at least 75,000 known security threats in Android, and a graph shows how fragmented the operating system actually is, with 36 percent of devices still running KitKat.

Windows 10 Mobile already has the essential apps

This doesn't necessarily mean that Windows 10 Mobile is a perfect platform, but HP says that it has some advantages that no other mobile operating system can provide.

For example, HP was particularly interested in universal apps and the integrated experiences, which Microsoft is pushing so hard for these days, explaining that the lack of apps is not an issue because the essential apps are already available on the platform, including Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram.

HP also names legacy app virtualization and compatibility with existing infrastructure as two important reasons for choosing Windows 10 Mobile over Android.

It's believed that HP is now working on a consumer-focused Windows phone that could be unveiled in early 2017, but neither HP nor Microsoft confirmed reports in this regard. On the other hand, people close to the matter indicated that Microsoft internally discussed the phone, suggesting that HP is becoming one of the top supporters of Windows phones.
