BMW discontinues its Windows Phone app

German Car Manufacturer BMW has confirmed that its Windows Phone app DriveNow will no longer be available for Windows Phone users. The company would be more interested in putting its entire focus on iOS and Android.

Generally the Windows Phone users are provided with alternatives when an Official app is being removed from the Store. But in this case there is no such workaround. But Windows Phone users can still use a third party app called Free2Move which comes with similar features and is supported for BMW's DriveNow apart from other car sharing services like car2go.

BMW in response to an email said:

"Thank you very much for your email. Unfortunately, the latest version of our app does not support Windows Phone. However, you can always reserve a vehicle with a free call at our customer service at 0 800 07 07 02. You can then open it with the customer card. Customer service is available around the clock," an official statement from the company reads.

BMW is not the first company to leave the Windows Phone platform due to its market share going below 0.5 percent and more users and developers willing to use and develop apps for iOS and Android which account for more than 95% of the Smartphone market.
