The Status of Windows Phone

Kevin Gallo, director of Developer at Microsoft, showed off the Linux Bash shell at the opening keynote of Build 2016 in San Francisco. Microsoft has designed the feature in such a way that developers can make use of it with "as little as 2 lines of code". There will be a single unified store across devices, giving developers new features and consumers a consistent experience, like adding bundles, season passes, and pre-orders to the Windows Store.

Once the update hits, you'll be able to interact with Cortana within Skype, and the company's AI will also help facilitate conversations between third-party bots. Windows developers will still need to format their apps for the console, and Microsoft hasn't indicated that all purchases will carry over between the Windows Store and Xbox.

Microsoft highlighted commercial customers in several industries that are using HoloLens, including NASA.

With the introduction of Windows 10, Microsoft took a different approach by allowing users to download preview builds of their operating system by joining the Insider Preview. However, the new mode is going to miss out on one of the key features that would have made it even more exciting i.e. open game development. "Human language is the new UI layer, bots are like new applications, and digital assistants are meta apps". This functionality will work for Windows 10 Mobile devices too, but Microsoft won't be bringing this to the iPhone. This is something very interesting and foreseen by the company and might tilt more users to upgrade from older Windows variant.

With Xbox Dev Mode it's now possible for developers to build and experiment with Universal Windows Platform to test their apps and games.

Microsoft has struggled to get a foothold in the mobile space, which is squarely dominated by Apple's iOS and Google's Android mobile operating systems.
