Microsoft will reportedly drop one key feature from Skype for Windows Phone 8.x.
It is the primary means of distributing Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps, which are compatible with desktop, mobile and server versions of Windows. However Lumia user can use Lumia Panorama app to take panorama pictures. Despite this, we can deduce some hidden intentions on the part of Microsoft's explanation. For example, the entry-level smartphone Nokia Lumia 520 (working on Windows Phone 8.1) had no flash in its default build. However, it appears Microsoft is reserving some features for members of the Windows Insider program, which it is encouraging Windows 10 users to join.
This blow comes just weeks after Kantar Worldpanel ComTech revealed that Windows Phone now holds less than five per cent of the European market, and that all the firm's future hopes ride on the long-rumoured Surface Phone devices. So, with this change, they'll have to choose whether they want to continue using Windows Phone without Skype video messaging, or if they're going to upgrade.
Microsoft knows this is the case but now that appears to be their plan and they seem to focused on completing Windows 10 while Windows mobile hardware lies in a state of hibernation.
It could be worse though, as Gartner estimates that Canadian phone maker BlackBerry claimed just 0.2 per cent of sales in Q1, down from 0.4 per cent in 2015. Forcing some people to abandon their current devices certainly won't improve those numbers.
So with this in mind would you choose the Microsoft Lumia 950 over one of the iOS or Android devices and if so why?
If you've been keeping an eye on everything Microsoft in the last 10 months or so, you probably know that there's a huge controversy online regarding the way the company pushes Windows 10 on our PCs.
