Phone found close to where airman's pinged a mast hours after he disappeared

A PHONE found in a Suffolk park has been ruled out of the search for missing airman Corrie McKeague in a fresh blow for those working frantically to locate him.

The phone was found close to where Corrie's Nokia Lumia 435 pinged a mast hours after he disappeared while on a night out in September.

Corrie McKeague's mother Nicola Urquhart and girlfriend April Oliver have said they want to enjoy the pregnancy but wish Corrie was with them

Earlier today police told the Bury Free Press they were  arranging to collect the phone, found by a member of the public.

The mobile had been found in Mildenhall, which neighbours Barton Mills – the last known location of Corrie's phone.

But this afternoon police have said there is "nothing to link" the find to the Corrie enquiry.

'HE'S A SOCIAL HAND GRENADE' Missing RAF man Corrie Mckeague's mum brands him 'reckless' and a 'risk-taker'

The development comes just day after it was revealed that the missing RAF gunner is to become a dad in the spring.

Earlier this month Corrie's mum Nicola Urquhart told This Morning she believes somebody could be holding her 23-year-old son captive and that they could crack under "phenomenal" public pressure.

The tearful former policewoman appealed for anyone with information about Corrie to come forward in return for a £50,000 reward.

In a desperate bid to trace him his family hired "an elite team of specialists" as his disappearance stretches into months.

Police have found no trace of the 23-year-old serviceman since he was last spotted on CCTV in the early hours of September 24.

He was reported missing after he failed to turn up at his base in RAF Honington, and it was feared he could have tried to walk the ten miles back.

Since Corrie's disappearance, Suffolk Police has carried out "extensive" investigative work to find him, searching woodland, scouring hundreds of hours of CCTV and tracing dozens of people who may held clues.

But, in November they admitted they have "no leads" despite trawling through 1,100 hours of CCTV footage.

Before Christmas Hollywood star Tom Hardy made a video appeal for help finding missing Corrie, from Dunfermline.

Nicola was also pictured combing through undergrowth with a team of volunteers as she refuses to give up the search.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who was in Bury St Edmunds on the night of September 23/24. Anyone with information that may assist is urged to call the Suffolk Police incident room on 01473 782019.
