Yesterday, Verizon Lumia Icon users were at long last granted an official release of Windows 10 Mobile.
The update, which was originally promised in the December of 2015, has come out in the March of 2016, and following that, millions of devices have been updated to the latest version of the Windows 10 Mobile OS. Apparently, the wait is over, as AT&T has started pushing the update today (via Neowin). We can confirm that the Upgrade Advisor does mark the AT&T Lumia 1520 as Windows 10 ready and the system then proceeds to download the update. As always in these cases, the rollout occurs over-the-air, so at some point you'll get an update notification and you go from there.
Microsoft included in the Verizon Lumia Icon in the Windows Insider program in early May, with Gabe Aul, head of the program at that time, explaining that the company was still working to make the official upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile available for devices in this network. A Wi-Fi connection is required for the update.
Windows Store - for access to hundreds of thousands of applications.
There was pretty much no reason for not releasing Windows 10 Mobile to the Lumia Icon since it's almost identical to the Lumia 930, one of the devices that received both the upgrade to the stable version and preview builds. As Windows 10 delivers significant new innovations, many older devices are not able to successfully upgrade without an impact on the customer experience. The company has introduced several changes, updates and upgrades to the way we know the markets to be, and has been relentlessly helped improve the markets.
